Skincare can be overwhelming with the constantly changing “must haves” on the market. That’s where I can help. This guide will help steer you in the right direction of what products must always be a part of your routine regardless of the latest trend in the beauty world.
Step 1: Cleanse…and then cleanse again.
I can’t emphasize enough the impact of double cleansing at night or after you have worn make up.
Not only does this remove impurities that are lingering on the skin overnight that contribute to clogged pores and breakouts but it means your skin care products really start to work. This makes the money and effort that you are putting in to your skin care routine worthwhile.
Try using one oil-based cleanser followed by either a gel or foam cleanser.
My Top Picks
Dermaquest peptide cleanser ,£32.
Simple Kind To Skin Vital Vitamin Foaming Cleanser £9.99
Quinoderm gel wash £6.90 for anyone prone to breakouts as it is anti-bacterial.
Step 2: Toner
This helps to remove any residue after cleansing such as chlorine in water. It then helps to tighten pores giving skin a youthful look and allowing makeup to be applied flawlessly. It also stops impurities in the environment from getting into the skin as the pores are tight and of course as the name suggests it promotes an even skin tone.
My Top Picks
Pixi Vitamin C Tonic
The Ordinary Glycolic toner
Clarins toning lotions for combination skin
Step 3: Moisturize
This is something most of us do regularly BUT making sure the product you are using is the hard part. It needs to hydrate the skin but there are so many other active ingredients we need to be aware of, check out my guide on this for which ingredients you need for your skin needs.
You may feel you need to skip this step if you have oily skin but actually this works in an opposite way as your skin feels it may get dehydrated and over produces oil to compensate! So moisturizing oily skin twice a day may sound absurd but it could just be your long term solution.
My top picks
Crème de la mer
Cetaphil
Loreal aloe vera and hyaluronic acid
Step 4: Sun Block
And Last but not least SPF is something never to be skipped even on a gloomy day.
This could just be the solution to the majority of your skin concerns as well as protecting from cancer, wrinkles, aging and of course sun burn.
Go for the highest SPF you can but the minimum should be SPF 30. Many foundation creams have SPF but this doesn’t mean you should skip this step.
My top picks
La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60
Supergoop Glow Stick Sunscreen SPF 50
