The Miracle Ingredient: AHA
If you don’t have an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) in your skincare routine, you are seriously missing out on a very simple fix that will give you clear, soft and spot free skin. Chemical exfoliators work more effectively than harsh scrubs. Incorporate an AHA into your daily routine for smooth, zit free skin that lasts.
How AHA’s Work
AHA’s gently exfoliates the top layer of the skin which is exposed to UV rays, pollutants and just life really. It deeply penetrates the skin due to its small particle size to get rid of dead skin cells revealing an even skin tone which looks healthier and younger.
As you age, your natural skin cell cycle slows down, which can make dead skin cells build up. When you have too many dead skin cells, they can accumulate and make your complexion look dull.
Benefits Of AHA’s
- Promotes the production of collagen

- Keeps the skin plump and moisturised as its helps to retain moisture.

Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and is my knight in shining armour of all AHA’s. It has the smallest molecules so is able to penetrate deeper than any other molecule into the skin.
This means glowing skin quicker and it works so fast! Glycolic acid is amazing as an acne treatment, it reduces sebum which block up pores, clears black heads (and white heads) and reduces the scarring that any stubborn acne may have left behind.
Who Can Benefit From AHA’s?
Pretty much everyone! well everyone who wants glowy skin.
AHA’s are suitable for all skin types. It’s always best to start with a lower concentration first work your way up and remember to always patch test.
How To Start Using AHA’s It In Your Skincare Routine
Always begin by cleansing your skin, as this gives you the best canvas for maximum absorption. They should be applied preferably at night time and wear sunscreen the next morning as AHA’s can increase photosensitivity, meaning exposure to even mild sunlight can cause a rash or irritation.
At first start by using it up two twice a week at night and gradually increase its usage to once daily. This allows your skin to adjust to the changes in pH.
One thing to note is it doesn’t mix well with vitamin C, these may be in the form of ascorbic acid or L-ascorbic acid. They can cause break outs when mixed with AHA’s.
