1. The Thickness of The Skin Around The Eyes
The skin around the eyes is thinner than the rest of the face. This means that the skin allows the dilated veins underneath to show, these veins carry deoxygenated blood that is darker in colour and can pool in this area and create dark circles under and around the eyes.
People of asian or african origin genetically have very thin lower eyelid skin, meaning dark circles appear more prominant.
We can counteract these dilated blood vessels in a number of ways.

3. Lack of Hydration
The under eye area is more prone to dehydration compared to the rest of your skin. When we are lacking water in our bodies the under eye area will appear more hollow and sunken which promotes the appearance of dark circles that may already be there due to other reasons.

6. Age
Naturally as we age our skin looses elasticity as our body stops producing collagen.
This causes thinning of the skin under the eyes and again promotes the appearance of blood vessels that are carrying blur de-oxygenated blood.
